How to use your Dowsing Pendulum.

Dowsing is a skill that anyone can learn. It does take practice but then what worthwhile goal is ever reached without effort? Before you can practice you do need to discover what the movement of the pendulum means.

For beginners, dowsing can be accomplished using three movements: one for a YES/POSITIVE answer, another for NO/NEGATIVE, and a third for MAYBE/NEUTRAL (or a Rephrase the Question) response. Experienced dowsers may also count the number of swings or turns to determine depth of an item being searched for; rely on the movement of the instrument to determine the length of a particular treatment they're doing; etc.

The first step is determining what YOUR responses mean. Your responses may vary from another person's but that is fine - what works for you is all that counts!

•Take your pendulum and hold the string or chain between your thumb and first finger, about 2 ½ to 3 inches from the weight at the end.

•Sit quietly for a few moments to centre and ground yourself. If you find that you are out-of-sorts in some way wait until another time. You should be in a state of relaxed alertness.

•While slowly swinging the pendulum vertically back and forth, mentally (or out loud) ask the pendulum to show you your YES movement by swinging in a circular direction. This will be clockwise or counter-clockwise. If there is little or irregular movement it might be beneficial to hold the pendulum over your right knee.

•Repeat for a NO response. Repeat the question "Please show me what my YES response is."

•Ask for your MAYBE response. Oftentimes it will be a back-and-forth swing at a 45-degree angle. It should be something quite different from the circular motions.

Now you practice, practice, and practice some more! You should start by asking questions that you know the answers to. For example, is my name ____ (choose a name other than your own)? You should get a NO response. Repeat the question using your own name. You should get a YES response. Then you can move on to asking questions where the answer can be verified, such as "Are there any messages on my answering machine?" If you get a YES response, ask, "Is there 1 message?" "More than 1 message?" "Is there 2 messages?" and so on. These simple exercises, done consistently, will enhance and confirm your ability to dowse.

How to Use a Pendulum for Divination

To use the pendulum, dangle the object while holding the other end either with your fingers or by looping the end of the chain over one finger. The hand is kept as still as possible. The pendulum should begin to move within a minute or so. A pendulum movements include swinging back and forth and circling either clockwise or counter clockwise. By practicing first, it is possible for anyone to accomplish getting some movement from the pendulum.

In order to practice tapping into the subconscious, it is advised to draw a simple direction (NESW) chart and then ask questions of which you know the answers.

Some practice questions include which way is north or which direction is my front door. Practice and ask about weather conditions or some similar question when divining for yes or no answers. The main thing is that you know the answers to the questions and that you can get the pendulum to give correct answers. When you are able to answer your questions, it is time to try dowsing for unknown information.

Before the divination is performed, the meanings of the movements should already be decided. This should be decided even if you are only going to do simple yes or no questions. To avoid any confusion over the answers that are received, use a cloth or paper on which the directions or quadrants are clearly marked. Ask questions in such a way that your pendulum will be able to answer according to the rules on which you have decided. You can ask your questions mentally or aloud.

There are different types of charts you can create for your divination with a pendulum. Your charts can be linear, circular or semi-circular. Examples of charts that can be useful include alphabet, numbers, yes or no, colour, directions and one marked with segments for emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. A quick search on Google will allow you to find many different free charts.

With your pendulum, you will be able to divine answers to questions about the future, relationships, lost items and for help with making decisions. You can make your own charts for whatever is necessary.

It is important to make your own rules about the pendulum movement if you are not going to use divination charts. If you are using charts, it is easy to gain specific answers to a variety of questions. You can customize your charts easily. Just make sure you are consistent with your own rules.

Some amazing things can be uncovered using the pendulum. For years the pendulum has been associated with the Svengali image of the hypnotist holding you in his power.

Actually, as one looks at the information on pendulums, the pendulum goes much further back in history. Ancient kings and queens such as Solomon, Sheba, Cleopatra and other employed the use of pendulumists, who practiced the science of Radiesthesia. Today, pendulums are more widely used by psychologists, hypnotists and individuals to create a link of communication with the subconscious mind to uncover information thought to be forgotten or unknown. Many skilled in the science of E.S.P. utilize the pendulum to connect with powers and intelligence beyond the physical. In all truth, this tool is as serious as you make it. And dowsing pendulums can be as inexpensive or as expensive, or as small or as large as you want them.

Unlike ouija boards, that have somewhat of a reputation for connecting with unsavoury and sometimes evil forces, the pendulum is associated with connecting with the good and more powerful forces. (Forces that bring health and prosperity to the user--and never at the expense of another's health or prosperity.) Using the pendulum, you can develop skills to achieve your potential or just plain have more fun picking numbers for the lottery.

What makes it work? Tiny muscles in your finger tips are connected to the motor centres of the brain and it is these motor centres that are affected by unconscious thoughts. Your unconscious thoughts cause the tiny muscles in your fingers to react and thus move the pendulum. This is called the ideomotor response. The pendulum then becomes a direct link to your unconscious. And the unconscious is where thoughts and memories are stored that your conscious is unaware of. The pendulum is a means of connecting with those hidden truths and memories. Using the pendulum this way is called pendulum dowsing--using it to find information.

Making your dowsing charts for crystal pendulum dowsing

First, draw a circle about 4" in diameter on a blank sheet of paper. Draw a straight horizontal line through the circle to intersect the centre of the circle. Place an arrow on each of of the line and label the line, "NO." Next draw a vertical line through the center of the circle, add an arrow on each end and label this line, "Yes." At the top of the circle draw a curved line inside or outside the circle to match the curvature of the circle, place one arrow on the right side of the line and label this curved line, "I don't know." Lastly at the bottom of the circle, draw another curved line as you did at the top, place an arrow on the left end of the line and label it, "I don't care to answer."

If you're right handed, place your right elbow on the table with your forearm and hand extended above the chart. Drape the chain of the pendulum over your right forefinger and hold in in place with your thumb such that the ball of the pendulum is suspended from a half inch to an inch over the centre of the chart. Obviously if you are left handed, you use your left arm and hand.

Begin by thinking the word, "Yes." Don't try to make the pendulum move, nor try to hold it still, just let the thought, "yes," repeat in your mind. Some people respond immediately and the pendulum begins moving up and down on the chart along the vertical line labelled, "Yes." The response might be very minimal or very strong--it doesn't matter.

If the pendulum doesn't move, it's because you are trying too hard, i.e. trying to make sure that you are not consciously moving it. If so, relax, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and repeatedly think, "Yes." Let your mind and body feel the direction of, "yes." If no response is attained, skip to horizontal direction. Repeat this for the horizontal direction representative of, "NO." There are only two other directions, clock wise and counter clock wise. Think, "I don't know," to have the pendulum move in the clockwise direction. And then plead the fifth (pun), think, "I don't care to answer," to have it move in the counter clock wise direction.

Now you are ready for basic communication. Suggestion: avoid starting with complication. Keep your initial communication basic. Begin by asking, "I am asking my subconscious if my name is "_________?" Or, I am asking my subconscious mind if I am married?" Make sure each question is directed to your subconscious mind by saying, "I am asking my subconscious mind... As you direct the question to the subconscious, avoid consciously thinking the answer, i.e. let your mind be blank. Avoid thinking, "sure my wife's name is," or, "of course I'm not--I'm not even dating anyone." Also make sure the question is clearly stated. If not, the pendulum may swing diagonally.

Caution: the pendulum gives you literal interpretation from the subconscious, e.g., you may ask yours subconscious mind if your name is (name) and even though that is what your birth certificate says, it may swing, NO." This is because your subconscious doesn't regard you as " _____," but as your nickname. Or perhaps you ask yourself if you're a writer, and it might say, NO." because you regard yourself as a poet. Thus you may not always have rational explanations for the answers. Your mind is influenced easily, so if your husband disappointed you and didn't take out the garbage today, don't ask if you love him. A "NO," answer may mean that your love is contingent on the garbage being taken out, which really has nothing to do with him -- unless your marriage is only about the garbage being taken out.
